Beneficial Uses Group Members and Their Missions

GALVESTON, TEXAS - The Beneficial Uses Group (BUG) is an interagency group responsible for developing an environmentally responsible utilization plan for materials dredged during the expansion of the Houston Ship Channel.

The following eight agencies, listed with their missions, compose the BUG:

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service conserves, protects, and improves conditions for fish and wildlife and their habitats for the benefit of the American people.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency protects human health and safeguards the natural environment.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers develops, manages and executes engineering, construction and real estate programs for the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force, other federal agencies and other governments.

Natural Resources Conservation Service provides leadership to help people conserve, improve and sustain natural resources and environment.

National Marine Fisheries Service maintains living marine resources for the benefit of the nation.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department manages and conserves the natural and cultural resources of Texas.

Texas General Land Office serves all people of Texas through, among other things, protection of the environment and stewardship of state lands and resources.

Port of Houston Authority owns and operates the public facilities along the Houston Ship Channel and is the Channel's official sponsor.
